What is a Resting Metabolic Rate Test?

At Science of Speed, we are happy to offer Resting Metabolic Rate Testing to Tallahassee and the rest of the Florida Panhandle. Often we find that many people do not understand what Resting Metabolic Rate is, how our test functions, and how an RMR test might benefit you in your goals.

What is a Resting Metabolic Rate Test?

A resting metabolic rate test measures your body’s specific daily caloric needs to sustain life. During this test, our Parvo Medics research-grade metabolic cart takes a breath-by-breath analysis of your oxygen consumption. From this information, we can accurately determine your RMR to provide insight into your caloric needs.

What does a Science of Speed Resting Metabolic Rate test look like?

Utilizing Parvo Medics Trueone 2400, we have each test subject recline in a comfortable chair. The testing portion lasts 15-20 minutes, during which you will remain in a relaxed, meditative type state. As you are relaxing, our equipment is hard at work, collecting the necessary data for a breath-by-breath analysis of what your body is doing.

Once done, we finalize the data and will discuss the results and answer any questions you might have to help you best set up your nutrition to meet your personal goals.

Why is a Resting Metabolic Rate test done?

Knowing your resting metabolic rate can significantly increase the accuracy of your caloric needs to improve the effectiveness of weight management and nutrition planning.

We often hear people say they “have a low metabolism.” Well, there is no better way to tell than testing the source itself!
